Position Details:

Lakeview School District is a comprehensive school of approximately 4,100 students in grades K-12, 500 faculty and support staff members and an annual General Fund Budget of $34 million.  The district is comprised of six school buildings, four K-4 elementary schools, one 5-8 middle school and one high school.


SUMMARY:  The Family and Consumer Science Teacher teach subjects such as Choices, Child Development, Parenting, Nutrition and Household/General Finance (budgeting).   This student instruction is designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth in the subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible men and women.



  • Teach Lakeview School District approved curriculum.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Prepare for classes assigned.    
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs & capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals -- establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.  Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, while maintaining order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
  • Evaluate pupils' academic and social growth, keeping appropriate records and prepare progress reports.
  • Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Diagnose the learning disabilities of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists as required.
  • Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.
  • Confer with students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day as necessary.
  • Keep updated attendance records, following protocols established by building administration.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Possess a Bachelor’s Degree from accredited college or university.
  • Experience working with students in a diverse, multicultural academic setting

  • Bilingual preferred but not required



  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate with endorsement in Family and Consumer Science (KH) is required.


OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:  Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.  Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication.  Ability to work with staff, parents and children.
