Qualifications:

  • NCLB Qualified
  • Valid Michigan secondary teaching certificate with necessary endorsement
  • Major in area of instruction

Unique Aspects which should be considered before applying:

  • Orchestra, Choir, DP Music and MYP Personal Project Teacher
  • A strong background in string pedagogy and music education
  • Ability to be a collaborative member of the music department
  • Longer school year calendar: 192 teacher days
  • Longer school day: 7:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Symphony Orchestra rehearsals extend after the regular school day
  • Two-thirds of students at the Okma Campus participate in the music program
  • The Okma Campus has an active Music Boosters program that works closely with the Orchestra and Band directors
  • International focus across the curriculum which will involve cross disciplinary planning
  • Block scheduling
  • Teacher responsibilities: classroom instructor, seminar mentor, product team advisor, curriculum development, evening performances, weekend competitions
  • Encouraged to be involved in enrichment weeks
  • Involvement in International Baccalaureate program
  • Will be hired by Bloomfield  School District
  • Willingness to attend International Baccalaureate teacher training

Salary:   Same salary as Bloomfield School District, plus a stipend for the extended school year and the optional enrichment weeks, stipend for extra duties
