Summary:
The LEA Business Manager/Pupil Auditor will administer the business affairs of the assigned local school district in such a way as to provide the best possible educational services with the financial resources available and conduct and submit pupil audits per the requirements of MDE and review pupil accounting with LEAs according to state requirements.

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business is preferred, however, an Associate’s degree in accounting, finance, or business may be considered. Five years’ experience in Michigan public school finance/business office positions would be a plus and strong preference given to those with previous experience as a Business Manager in Michigan schools.

  • Ability to manage time effectively.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.

LEA Business Manager Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for all accounting and financial matters of the local district.
  • Preparation of the local district’s annual and amended budgets
  • Preparation of month-end and year-end financial reports and schedules, including an annual financial audit.
  • Prepare and coordinate fiscal grant accounting
  • Oversee financial functions being performed for the local district by other ISD finance staff.
  • Adhere to the local district, Michigan Department of Education (MDE) and Federal Office of Management and Budget policies and regulations.
  • Maintain professional certification and up-to-date knowledge of school finance issues by participating in regular continuing education, seminars and certification courses.

 
ISD Pupil Auditor Essential Functions:                   

  • Responsible for pupil desk and field audits of LEAs per the requirements of MDE.
  • Remain up to date on all state funding of FTEs and other pupil accounting information and serve as the liaison between MDE and LEAs.
  • Provide technical assistance for memberships and keep local districts up-to-date on current pupil accounting procedures and required documentation.
  • Provide workshops or one on one for LEA’s on pupil membership when necessary.

Education and Experience:

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
MSBO Business Office Manager (or equivalent) certification is required. MSBO Chief Financial Officer Certification preferred, and must be pursued if not already held by anyone in this position. Valid Michigan driver’s license and good driving record required. 
 
Employment Date and Salary:
