Salary Range:        $95,000 - $130,000

Position Summary


As a critical member of the DPSCD’s Technology Infrastructure Team, the Network Architect will perform network engineering, installation, setup, configuration, upgrades, advanced troubleshooting of enterprise routing and switching environments, virtual private networking (VPN), firewalls, Voice Over IP, wireless networking, network access and policy controls, and systems monitoring. This includes assessing, developing and implementing technical plans and strategies to ensure optimal health and security of the district network at all times, as well as identifying opportunities for improvement, expansion and innovation.     



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Business or related major is preferred
  • CCNA minimal requirement; CCNP Certification is desired

  • 5+ years of Experience with Switching (Capacity Planning & VLAN’s), Routing (OSPF, EIGRP, BGP), WAN Technologies (MPLS, VPLS, VPN) and Security (Fortinet/Cisco Firewalls, IPS).
  • Outstanding troubleshooting and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work as a key member of a team as well as independently.
  • Excellent knowledge of TCP/IP, including packet-level traffic analysis.
  • Experience with VoIP, QoS, and IP Telephony technologies.
  • Experience with Cisco Wireless Deployments (LWAP’s 1142i, 2702i, & 3702i WLC 8540 & 5508), Cisco ISE, Cisco Data Center Switching (NEXUS Platform 7000 series, 5500 Series, 2200 series), Security methodology, Load Balancing, VMware, and network monitor tools.
  • 1+ year experience with SD-WAN design, deployment, and support is a plus.
  • Experience with network diagnostic, monitoring and analysis tools (e.g. Cisco Prime Infrastructure, SolarWinds, SNMP, Splunk, Syslog, SolarWinds, NetFlow network tools).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Available for travel to various District locations.



Position Job Responsibilities:


Under the direction of the Deputy Executive Director of Technology Infrastructure, the Network Architect shall:


Essential Functions

  1. Responsible for secure network design, establishing and enforcing system standards; creating and maintaining accurate technical documentation for WAN, LAN, Wi-Fi, Internet, Firewalls, Servers, Video and VoIP solutions.
  2. Responsible for optimizing network performance; troubleshooting network problems and outages; scheduling upgrades; perform network optimization, including QoS.
  3. Provide 3rd level support for WAN, LAN, Wi-Fi, Internet, Servers, Video and VoIP solutions.
  4. Participate in capacity planning and annual budgeting activities to ensure opitimal health of enterprise investments.
  5. Involvement in project work including project management, selection, recommendation, design, testing, and implementation of various solutions.
  6. Work with emerging technologies such as SD-WAN or Data Center products.
  7. Perform network assessments and security audits.
  8. Support internal run and maintain activities, including remote monitoring and management system, respond to alerts, monitor health and seek improvement opportunities.
  9. Provide help in the management of vendor relationships.
  10. Participate in after-hours maintenance windows to update, change, and install various systems.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
