Position Details: 


To be successful, the ideal candidate will be able to perform each of the essential duties below with confidence and competence:

  • Developing high-quality, relevant and effective communication materials for both membership and public consumption, which includes: Designing brochures, event catalogs and programs for various Association workshops and conferences, both digitally and in print.
    • Creating logos and other visuals for use on flyers, website, print and digital communications.
    • Creating materials and maintaining a marketing schedule to promote Association events and programs.
    • Writing, curating and editing content for the Association’s weekly online newsletter and website.
    • Providing speeches and talking points for Association staff and members, as needed.
  • Coordinating social media with the Executive Director to promote Association events, programs and advocacy positions.
  • Collaborating with the Director of Student Services to provide communication and marketing support for the Michigan Association of Student Councils and Michigan Association of National Honor Societies. 
  • Working with the Director of Government Relations to create infographics and materials to outline and clarify the Association's legislative and policy positions.
  • Partnering with the Business and Membership Specialist to develop the annual membership campaign and design recruitment materials.
  • Facilitating Association award programs, including Administrators of the Year and Student Scholarships.
  • Working in a collaborative, positive and supportive manner with all MASSP staff.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.


A Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Communications or a closely related field from an accredited educational institution is required. Communications and/or marketing experience working with a member-based association, non-profit or governmental agency is preferred. Candidate must have extensive experience with graphic design software including, but not limited to Adobe Create Suite (InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop). Excellent computer and technology skills, including a working knowledge of Apple applications/Mac OSX and Microsoft Office are also required. The ability to effectively utilize various communication apps and programs, as well as a variety of social media platforms is desired.

The ideal candidate should be a motivated self-starter and a strong-performing team player with the ability to develop effective working relationships with peers. The individual must also blend technical ability with professional commitment, a willingness to learn, flexibility, integrity and confidentiality. The candidate must have the ability to manage multiple simultaneous tasks under established deadlines while maintaining superior attention to detail.


This is a full-time, exempt position based in Lansing, Michigan. The salary range for this position is $55,000 to $65,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience, plus a comprehensive benefit package, including health, dental and vision coverage, as well as a 20% annual employer 403(a) contribution. 

The Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals (MASSP) is a 1,700-member strong organization representing the state’s high school, career technical education and middle level principals and assistant principals.
